Time flies....

Wow, its so funny how when you’re a kid and you’re in school, it is taking forever and it just feels like time is crawling. All you do is count down until the last period bell rings and you wonder why life moves soooo sllllooowww. And then you grow up, get married, have a baby or two, or three, or four and as soon as you blink your eyes another year has passed! What changed? Did life become more enjoyable? Did it now click about how short life really is and you better make the best of it? I don’t know but I think it works like that for everyone. It seems like I was just counting down the days for graduation wondering if it could be any slower and all of a sudden my 4 year wedding anniversary is coming up and my baby boy is moving into the toddler room at daycare. The only thing I can ask myself is “did I enjoy it?” Because honestly I don’t remember. I hope I did. I wish I could have some of that slow down time that was so abundant in school so I can use it now. Too bad they only way to get that now is to go running on the treadmill or have your teeth pulled ha! Oh well no point in dwelling on the past. All it does is take away from the future. So for now I will just try and make sure I enjoy all the small things that happen every day. Like the way Matthew runs to his high chair yelling “I eat, I eat!” he does that a lot now. Or a good song that comes on the radio. The warm weather that is perfect for taking a walk around the neighborhood, I am really missing that! A good book and so on. I think that is what I am going to try for from now on. Really enjoying life because there is no pause or rewind button. So this week as I take Matthew into daycare to the toddler room for the first time I am going to enjoy it because before long I will be taking him to the big boy school!! Yikes!! And since this is a totally random pointless post I wanted to share a quote from Gandhi that I heard for the first time but I really liked it! “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I LOVE it! I wish more people thought like that.

One week down!

and like 5 1/2 to go! Its actually not been that bad giving up Facebook. I like not knowing whats going on in every ones life. I don't think people are meant to know every little detail about everyone, at least everyone they know. I have been hanging out with Matthew more. I use to let him play in the computer room with me while I was on FB. Now I am down on the floor rolling around with him. Riley gets jealous at that lol. Last week Matthew got sick again. The daycare called telling me I needed to pick him up. Luckily Rudy was off work so he went and got him and took him to the doctors. It was another ear infection. The doctor said if he got one more we need to talk about tubes. So he is on antibiotics. Poor kid will have spent most of this month taking antibiotics. At least he likes it. Every time I give it to him he goes "Ahhhhh" when he is done. He does that with his drinks too. The other night after I put him to bed I remembered that I didn't give him his antibiotics. I went back and forth on if I should wake him before finally deciding to do it. I went in there and got him out of the crib and sat in the rocking chair with him. He didn't open his eyes once but he took the antibiotics with no problem and even let out a little sleepy "ahhhh". It was a good thing I did that though because he needed a diaper change! So, so far this week has been pretty good. can't wait to see how the next 5 go!

My cool dude

Facebook Fast

Happy Ash Wednesday! Also know as the first day of Lent. Or the 40 days leading up to Easter when Jesus gave his life for all of us to have the chance be saved. I have never really done anything for Lent before. Some people will give something up for those 40 days in an effort to get closer to God. I decided that I should do Lent this year and give up Facebook. I have noticed lately that I spend a little too much time on it. To the point were I stay up way later than I should and end up going to bed later than I want. I have wanted to take a break from Facebook for awhile but somehow it always draws me in. So I am hoping but giving up Facebook for Lent I will have more accountability. Most of you who know me might say why not baby center too. I think the reason I get on baby center so much is because I go to check out Facebook, see how boring it is and then go check out baby center. At least I hope. I hope by staying of the computer more I can focus on more important things, read my Bible more, pray more, and go to sleep earlier Ha. We shall see. I will let you know how it all goes. So far so good for Day 1.

Interesting day

Last week Matthew was sick. He had a double ear infection along with cutting 3 molars. I could tell because he was not happy and felt a little warm. So I took his temperature to make sure with a new thermometer that I got and sure enough he had a fever. I put the thermometer on the coffee table and went to call the daycare, doctor, work, etc while Matthew watched Chugington. When I came back he was on the floor playing with the thermometer! I took it right from him and put it in the kitchen on the island. So Tuesday night, over a week from this incident, I start cleaning and putting things back up. I noticed the thermometer and went to put it up in Matthew’s room. That’s when I noticed that the back and a button battery were missing from it!! In case you don’t know button batteries are very bad if swallowed. The can get stuck in the esophagus and erode it to the aorta which can rupture and cause hemorrhaging. You can imagine the horror stories I read about this happen to peoples poor little babies =( . Needless to say I did not sleep well that night. It had been a week since Matthew played with it so chances were he did not get a hold of it but I searched the house high and low and could not find it. I did vacuum twice so there is a good chance I vacuumed it up. I called the nurse just to ease my worry. She talked to the doctor and they wanted me to bring him in just to make sure. After looking over him they thought he didn’t swallow it but because they are so dangerous she wanted to do an x-ray just to make sure. So off we went across the street to look at Matthew’s insides. After waiting 45 mins he was up. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would. He just had to lay down on an exam table and the picture was made really quick. We did have to hold him down and that upset him but he got a sucker when he was done so that made everything better. Luckily there was no battery seen in him. I still triple check everything when I got home and still haven’t found it. Any ways the moral of the story is to be very careful about what you have in your house. I had no idea that thermometer had a button battery or that it was that easy to get into. And it a thermometer that is meant to take a temperature of a baby! From those stories I read on line this ending could have been very very bad. I’m so glad and thank God that it was a good ending.

This is the thermometer that I had:
